EXAMPLES OF TIPS & SAMPLE
QUESTIONS FROM THIS BOOK

"MCSE & MCP + Internet: Accelerated Study Guide" is on special, only AUS$25

The following tips and sample questions were randomly selected from the book
to give an idea about its contents.

TIP

BRIDGES can be used like REPEATERS to connect network segments, but they can also reduce network traffic by controlling which packets get forwarded to other segments. Bridges can join dissimilar physical media such as twisted pair and coaxial. They can also join dissimilar architecture such as Ethernet and Token Ring. However, Bridges cannot translate protocols or take advantage of multiple paths simultaneously.

TIP To replicate WINS server you must configure two servers as Pull or Push partners. A Pull partner requests WINS server new database entries and a Push partner sends a message to its pull partner notifying them that its WINS database has been modified. Pull partners replicate by the clock and Push partners by the changes in the database.

TIP

FRAME RELAY is an advanced packet switching technology. It uses Private Virtual Circuit (PVC) to transmit variable length frames at the OSI Data Link layer and can provide subscribers with bandwidth as needed. FRAME RELAY does not have unnecessary accounting and error checking functions, and therefore is much faster than X.25.

TIP

SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a TCP/IP protocol for monitoring Windows NT networks. It must be installed before using TCP/IP performance counters in the Windows NT Performance Monitor.

TIP

SECTOR SPARING is a fault tolerance system and can be implemented with Windows NT Server. If bad sectors are found during disk input output operations, the system will attempt to move the data to a good sector and map out the bad sector. SCSI devices can perform sector sparing but AT, ESDI and IDE devices cannot.

TIP

When would you install a DHCP Relay Agent?

If you have two domains joined by a Windows NT server acting as a router, both domains are using TCP/IP as their communication protocol and one domain currently contains a DHCP server that manages IP addressing. To have the domain without the DHCP server domain to have its IP addressing managed by domain with the DHCP server.

TIP

For a connection between two buildings with the distance of over 2000 feet, you should use Fiber Optic Ethernet solution called 10BaseFL. They are not sensitive to interference.

Your Ethernet network with 600 clients is getting slower. You think that the network adapters are creating constant and meaningless transmissions. How can you identify this problem?
 a) Use Protocol Analyser
b) Use Performance Monitor
c) Use VDM
d) Use Network Monitor

You have added a new client to your network this new client cannot access the server. You checked and noticed that initialisation and configuration of software look okay. All other clients have no problem. Then, what can be the problem with this new client? (Choose the best answer.)
 a) Wrong protocol is being used
b) Network adapter is not 32 bit
c) Network adapter of this client use wrong transceiver
d) The cable of the new client is too short

In your network you have 500 clients using only TCP/IP protocol. Your network consists of 4 subnets. Which of the following devices will be best to connect subnets?
 a) Router
b) Brouter
c) Bridge
d) Repeater

Q Tim would like to increase performance of Network subsystem. What would you recommend he does?
A
  • Recommend him to remove unnecessary network services.
  • Recommend him to add high bandwidth network adapter cards.
  • Recommend him to install more than one network card with more than one protocol in the server environment.

Q Tim has two domains in his network namely Domain A and Domain B. Domain A trusts Domain B. He would like to create a few global groups. In which domain would you recommend him to create global groups?
A In the Domain B. (In the trusted domain.)

Q Tim has identified and resolved system bottlenecks. He writes a memo to notify the IT manager. What do you think IT manager would want him to accomplish next?
A The IT manager would request him to create a measurement of baseline.

Q Tim would like to configure the PDCs and BDCs. He starts the Server service and sees four options available there. Which one of the options should he select to achieve this?
A Maximise Throughput for Network Applications
